Access to a popular campground and boat launch on the Buffalo National River has reopened. The temporary closure at Kyles Landing Road was lifted on Friday.
The closure had allowed contractors to resurface the road from the National Park Service boundary to the Kyles Landing Campground. According to river officials, the purpose of the project was to enhance visitor safety and enjoyment by improving access to Kyles Landing, which sees an average of 25,000 vehicles per year.
The project also aimed to protect water quality by creating a more durable driving surface, stabilizing erodible ditches and drainage outlets and providing better drainage. This road improvement practice is designed to reduce the amount of sediment that runs off the road and drains into the Buffalo River.
