The North Arkansas Fly Fishers (NAFF) Sowbug Round for May 2021 has been canceled, according to the organization’s website. However, the three-day event is set to return March 24-26, 2022 at the Baxter County Fairgrounds for its 23rd year.
One of the goals of the sowbug is to encourage more people, especially young people, to become involved in fly fishing.
Every day of the event there are free introductory fly tying classes. Free fly casting lessons are available every day.
The seminars are chosen to appeal to fly fishers of every experience level. On Saturday, a free drawing for kids for fly fishing gear is held.
The Sowbug Roundup is not a vendor show, but there is a selection of vendors selling fly fishing/fly tying products.
The Sowbug Roundup is the North Arkansas Fly Fishers’ sole annual fundraising event. The income from the raffles and silent auctions allow NAFF to finance its environmental and philanthropic activities. NAFF allocates $10,000 every year for scholarships to students majoring in the fishery or environmentally related fields.
