A Boone County man has been arrested after allegedly shooting a woman over a flower pot. Fifty-one-year-old Mark Steven Belleville of Diamond City is facing several felony charges including attempted murder.
According to the affidavit in the case, a Harrison man flagged down a passing Boone County deputy sheriff the evening of April 2, informing the deputy his wife had been shot. The victim was taken to North Arkansas Medical Center and then transferred to a Springfield hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound to her leg.
The man told the deputy he and his wife were traveling on Arkansas Highway 7 north in Harrison when they saw a white flower pot in the middle of the road. He says they pulled into the driveway of the nearest residence, removed the flower pot from the roadway and placed it near the house. The man says that is when Belleville appeared in his doorway, yelling obscenities and calling the two “Boone County trash.”
As the couple left the residence, Belleville allegedly exited his house with a rifle and started shooting. The man said his wife was shot in the leg and one of his tires were blown out.
When law enforcement officers arrived at Bellville’s residence, he reportedly greeted them with his hands in the air.
Bellville is charged with felony counts of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, battery in the first degree, committing a terroristic act and committing a felony with a firearm. He is being held in the Boone County jail on a $250,000 bond.
