A Madison County man is accused of killing his mother and uncle and shooting his father Saturday morning. Forty-four-year-old Samuel Simmons is in the Madison County Jail at Huntsville and is expected to be formally charged on Monday.

According to the Arkansas State Police, Madison County deputies responded around 5:30 to a residence south of Huntsville off Arkansas Highway 23. When they arrived at the residence on County Road 5675, they located 67-year-old Richard Simmons Jr., who had been shot but was still alive. Richard Simmons’ wife, 65-year-old Mary Marlene Simmons, and brother, 66-year-old Mark Lee Simmons, were both found deceased.

Samuel Simmons, the son of Richard and Mary Simmons, was later apprehended by a state trooper near Huntsville. He reportedly shared the residence with his parents and his uncle. Madison County authorities have given the Arkansas State Police’s Criminal Investigation Division the lead in the investigation.

Richard Simmons is reportedly in stable condition at a hospital in Fayetteville. The bodies of Mary Simmons and Mark Simmons have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for the determination of the cause and manner of their deaths.
