February’s sales tax numbers remain up for county, city

February sales tax numbers for both Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home continued to show improvements compared to last year’s collections, reports from county and city officials indicate.

Baxter County collected $727,229.04 from its 1% sales tax, keeping 58% percent of that revenue and distributing the rest among the county’s nine cities based on their population.

Baxter County’s portion of that sales tax totaled $419,996.54, according to figures released by County Treasurer Jenay Mize. That is an 8.1% increase of $31,334.34 in sales tax revenue from the February 2020 collection of $388,662.20.

Mountain Home reported $518,820.97 in February sales tax revenue from its own 1% sales tax, according to figures released by Treasurer Marshella Norell. That is a 9% increase of $42,786.40 from the February 2020 sales tax collection of $476,034.57. The city also received $218,065.36 in February sales tax revenue from the county’s 1% sales tax.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s 1% sales tax included:

– Gassville, which received $36,402.62;

– Cotter, which received $16,992.56;

– Lakeview, which received $12,980.91;

– Norfork, which received $8,951.75;

– Salesville, which received $7,883.15;

– Briarcliff, which received $4,134.27; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,821.88.

Baxter County received $181,807.25 in February revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operations of the Baxter County Dentition Facility.

Mountain Home received $194,527.99 in February from its 0.375% sales tax to support its Police and Fire departments.

Sales tax distributions are made two months after sales taxes are collected by area businesses. February’s reports reflect area spending from December.
