Thursday results include Cotter softball team clinching state tournament bid

Regional tournaments got underway Thursday for baseball and softball in Arkansas.

Cotter’s softball team punched its ticket to next week’s state tournament after their high-scoring opener in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Keller Park in Mountain Home. The Lady Warriors edged out Lavaca 16-15.
Acorn will be Cotter’s next opponent in the regional semifinals. Yellville-Summit was eliminated by the Lady Tigers 11-1.
Flippin will be joining Cotter in the tournament’s final four. The Lady Bobcats were able to beat up on Magazine 9-2.
Flippin’s next opponent will be Mansfield. The Lady Tigers advanced after Decatur forfeited.

Ozark Mountain watched its season come to an end in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Scranton. The Lady Bears fell to Western Yell County 16-0.
Lead Hill also ended up being one and done in the tournament. The Lady Tigers lost to Scranton by a final of 15-0.
Omaha was also bounced from the first round of the regional tournament. The Lady Eagles fell to Mulberry 19-0.
Jasper will advance to the regional semifinals and secure a state tournament bid. The Lady Pirates got past County Line 17-15.

Viola was eliminated from the Class 1A Region 2 Softball Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell. The Lady Longhorns lost to Armorel 9-7.
Izard County did not fare any better as their season also came to an end. The host Lady Cougars fell to Hillcrest 16-3.
Mammoth Spring was able to clinch a state bid after shutting out Shirley 2-0. The Lady Bears improve to 20-4 on the season.

Salem advanced to the semifinals of the Class 2A Central Regional Tournament at Tuckerman. The Lady Greyhounds blanked Bigelow 7-0.
Melbourne also secured a state tournament berth with a shutout win. The Lady Bearkatz routed South Side-Bee Branch 10-0.

Valley Springs had a successful day as they began hosting the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. Valley Springs pounded another group of Lady Tigers from Charleston by a score of 14-3.

Harrison’s season ended as they began hosting the Class 4A North Regional Tournament. The Lady Goblins fell to Morrilton 9-1.

Cotter’s baseball team did not fare as well as their softball counterparts as they played their opener in the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Lester White Field at Cooper Park. The Warriors lost to Mansfield 3-0.
Flippin breezed its way to a state tournament berth as they shut out Acorn 13-0. Brycen Benedict and Philip Pasthing combined for a no-hitter on the mound. Jackson Jones and Dale Smyser led the Bobcats with two hits and two runs each.
Yellville-Summit will join Flippin in the regional semifinals. The Panthers were able to eliminate Lavaca 10-8.
Mountainburg took the last game of the day as they topped Life Way Christian 3-0.

Norfork’s baseball season ended in the first game of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Izard County High School in Brockwell. The Panthers lost to Mammoth Spring 3-0. The Bears are now 13-4 on the year.
Viola picked up an easy win in the third game of the day. The Longhorns blanked Armorel 15-0.
Izard County will be Mammoth Spring’s next opponent in the tournament. The Cougars defeated Hillcrest 8-2.

Ozark Mountain was one and done in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Scranton. The Bears fell to Ozark Catholic 19-4.
Jasper was also bounced from the tournament’s opening round. The Pirates lost to County Line 13-3.

Harrison was victorious as they began hosting the Class 4A North Regional Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. The Goblins destroyed Pottsville 12-2.
