Thursday results include MH softball team winning state opener

The Mountain Home High School softball team began hosting the Class 5A State Tournament Thursday, and it started on a good note for the Lady Bombers. Mountain Home was able to beat the 5A-South champions from Sheridan by a final of 7-1 at McClain Park.
Mountain Home’s next opponent will be Beebe. The Lady Badgers were able to edge out Paragould by a final of 7-6.
In the other games at Freedom Field, Greenwood shut out Lake Hamilton 3-0, and Marion blanked Sylvan Hills 10-0. At Keller Park, Benton bounced Searcy 10-0, White Hall eliminated Alma 3-0, Greene County Tech routed Little Rock Christian 15-4, and Hot Springs Lakeside doubled up Vilonia 4-2.

Four local softball teams competed in the Class 2A State Tournament in Carlisle.
Cotter watched its season come to an end in one of the first games of the day. The Lady Warriors fell to Parkers Chapel 15-0.
Flippin also ended up getting bounced from the tournament. The Lady Bobcats lost to Horatio 7-2.
Salem was able to advance to the quarterfinal round. The Lady Greyhounds pounded Carlisle by a score of 14-6.
Melbourne ended up being one and done in the tournament. The Lady Bearkatz fell to McCrory 7-4.

Two area softball teams were at Izard County High School in Brockwell for the start of the Class 1A State Tournament.
Mammoth Spring’s season ended with a 12-0 loss to Bradley. The Lady Bears’ final record on the year is 21-6.
Jasper suffered the same fate in the tournament’s opener. The Lady Pirates fell to Sacred Heart 17-0.

Valley Springs went to Ashdown for its first game in the Class 3A State Tournament. The Lady Tigers lost to Atkins 5-1.

Three local baseball teams played their openers in the Class 2A State Tournament on Thursday.
Flippin’s season came to an end at Carlisle. The Bobcats lost to Parkers Chapel 11-2.
Yellville-Summit was eliminated from the tournament at Lonoke. The Panthers fell to Woodlawn 10-0.
Salem was also at Lonoke as they came up just short in the tournament. The Greyhounds were edged out by McCrory 3-2.

Izard County began hosting the Class 1A State Baseball Tournament, and three area teams took part.
Half of the opening round games were held at Viola City Park, and the Longhorns were able to dominate in front of the home crowd. The Longhorns shut out Hermitage 10-0.
Mammoth Spring began the action at Viola with a 7-4 victory over Ouachita. The Bears improve to 14-6 on the season.
Izard County played the last game of the day at Cougar Field in Brockwell and beat Taylor 3-1. Landon McBride picked up the win as he pitched a complete game, struck out eight batters and gave up two hits and no earned runs. Chase Orf led the Cougar offense with two hits; McBride had a hit and an RBI; Gunner Gleghorn, Zach Simmons and Caleb Faulkner each added a base hit; and Noah Everett drove in a run. The Cougars are now 17-5 on the year.

Harrison’s baseball team was able to continue on in the Class 4A State Tournament at Morrilton. The Goblins squeaked by Camden Fairview.
