A Flippin man arrested for inappropriately touching a minor female claims he was asleep when the incident happened. Nineteen-year-old Ryan Fay Grunewald was arrested May 11 on a felony charge for the incident, which happened near Calico Rock in Izard County on April 30.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, Grunewald is accused of touching the 13-year-old while she was sleeping in the bed with Grunewald, his girlfriend and her children. The 13-year-old told investigators Grunewald reached under her clothing and touchded her during the night.
Grunewald’s girlfriend found out about the incident when she discovered the girl’s diary several days later and read the girl’s entry which described the incident. When she confronted her boyfriend about the incident, Grunewald allegedly told her he woke up and discovered his hand under clothes of the minor and he freaked out. He said he kept he hand there for several minutes because he didn’t want to wake her up and she think he was awake and doing it on purpose.
Grunewald told investigators he mistakenly thought the victim was his girlfriend.
Grunewald is charged with sexual assault in the second degree. Bond in the case is set at $20,000.
