Updated signs detailing the Mountain Home Entertainment District now bear the names of 45 businesses, an increase of 16 businesses compared to the inaugural signs installed last May.The signs can be found at the four corners of the Baxter County Courthouse square and at the four corners of the district, which runs from Hickory Street east to South Church Street and from 5th Street south to 8th Street. The district also includes part of South Main Street.

The district, which opened in July 2019, allows patrons between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and midnight daily to leave a restaurant or bar with a single, commercially branded paper or plastic cup of beer, wine or a mixed drink. Patrons could then consume that beverage while walking around the Entertainment District.

Duncan Clayton, the chairman of the Entertainment District Oversight Committee, says the new signs were installed last week.

The signs, which each stand more than 6 feet tall and are bolted into the sidewalk, are meant to increase the public’s awareness about what is in the district.

Clayton talks about the idea behind the signs.

The updated signs contain listings for 14 new businesses that have either recently opened in the downtown area or plan to later this summer.

Clayton talks about what the increase in downtown businesses means for the district.

Clayton says the Oversight Committee plans to replace the signs each year, typically in the spring.

It costs a business $25 a year to be listed on the signs. That price covers listings on all eight signs, plus the labor expense of having the Mountain Home Street Department replace the signs each year.
