Mountain Home senior Reagan Buckley was recently awarded the Best in Show award at the First Congressional District Art Competition hosted by U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford. Buckley will now have her winning artwork displayed in Washington, D.C.
Buckley used charcoal and white conte to create her winning drawing, entitled “Embrace.” Her artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Hall for a year along with other congressional district winners. She will also receive two airline vouchers to travel to D.C. to attend the Congressional Art reception later this summer.
Crawford’s’s office received more than 200 submissions from grades 9-12 for this year’s competition. Jayson Mirafuentes and Brandon King, both of Jonesboro, served as the competition’s judges.
The First District Art Competition is divided into categories and the first-place winners from each category were recognized by Crawford at a reception held at the Recovery Room Coffeehouse in Jonesboro. The first-place winners from each category, the Best in Show and the People’s Choice winner will be on display for the month of June at the coffeehouse.
Other Mountain Home High School students who were finalists or placed include Joshua Boelken and Kaitlyn Miller, finalists in the drawing category; Rachel Howald and Trinity Coger, finalists in the painting category; and Ty Lawrence, second place in the painting category.
Reagan Buckley’s parents are Dean Buckley and Trinity Fleetwood. Her art instructor at Mountain Home High School was Beth Ivens.
