Mountain Home Public Schools students earned 487 Industry Certifications through Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes during the 2020-21 school year. A total of 356 students earned certifications this year.

Superintendent Dr. Jake Long says he credits the CTE teachers for making these certifications a priority, “When students earn these certifications, we’re showing them that they have value in the workforce, and we’re also showing the workforce that we’re preparing young people who are ready to work. I am grateful that our CTE teachers have guided our students through the process of earning these industry certifications, and I am also so proud of our students for their hard work. I hope our area industries see the fruits of these labors when these young people head to work.”

This was the first year that seventh-grade students were able to earn a certification in the district, which was Red Cross Baby Sitting Basics.

CTE department chair Sheri Smith says “Mrs. Tara Camp had 99 seventh-grade students earn this certification. I bet some of these students will have babysitting jobs this summer.”

Industry certifications were earned in the following areas: Agriculture, Business Education, Family & Consumer Sciences, Marketing, Medical, Orientation to Teaching and ROTC.

Besides the babysitting certificate, students earned certificates for Beef Quality Assurance, Microsoft Office Suite, EverFi Digital Literacy, EverFi Financial Literacy, Principles of Banking and Banking & Finance Operations from the Arkansas Bankers Association, Arkansas Food Handler, Child Care Assistant, Child Care Teacher, CPR/AED/First Aid, ServSafe Food Protection Manager, ServeSafe Food Handler, Southwest Airlines Customer Service and Paraprofessional (educator).
