The Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce has announced it is postponing this week’s Friday Night Live musical event due to rising COVID-19 cases in the area. The Chamber posted its decision on social media Tuesday evening. The event, scheduled for Friday night at Hickory Park and sponsored by Baxter Regional Medical Center, will be made up Sept. 3rd, the Chamber said. The Arkansas Department of Health reports that Baxter County currently has 185 active COVID-19 cases, up from less than 30 cases being reported in late June. Health officials have said the spike in cases, which is also being seen across rural central Missouri, is due to a lack of people being vaccinated against coronavirus. In its social media post, the Mountain Home Chamber writes, “We waited until the last minute because we hoped we could proceed, but given the circumstances, we have to pause for a moment and put community above celebration. We want to thank our event sponsor Baxter Regional Medical Center, for working in the trenches day in and day out to keep us safe. Thank a healthcare worker today, and stay tuned because we will do our best this summer to keep bringing you the best talent in North Central Arkansas.”

The Friday Night Live musical series features popular local acts performing for free on the Hickory Park stage. The event also includes food trucks and craft vendors.

Friday’s event was to feature the Kattie Laney Project and serve as a public celebration of Baxter Regional being awarded Magnet status, a distinction held by only 8.9% of hospitals nationwide and only 547 hospitals globally.
