Kory Adam Charlton

A 30-year-old Mountain Home man who was wanted on felony and misdemeanor charges after he allegedly led authorities on a high-speed chase through Mountain Home on July 3, after the Lake Norfork Fireworks show, was jailed Wednesday afternoon.

Kory Adam Charlton faces charges for felony fleeing, along with six misdemeanor traffic violations occurring during the pursuit. He was released on a $10,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, authorities attempted to stop a motorcycle rider on state Highway 101 shortly after 10 p.m.

The man fled southbound, turned on to U.S. Highway 62 and started toward Mountain Home, driving at excessive rates of speed and dangerously weaving in and out of traffic. After losing sight of the motorcycle as the chase entered the city limits, deputies located the motorcycle and it’s rider stopped at a business and attempted a traffic stop for no license plate displayed.

As the deputy was making contact with the rider and instructing him to shut the motorcycle off, the bike sped off again and the chase resumed with the motorcycle allegedly reaching speeds of 112 miles per hour through the center of town. At this time, the pursuit went off the highway and onto city streets, with the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office helicopter joining the pursuit.

Authorities lost site of the bike near the intersection of Coley Drive and Gentry Street, with authorities converging on that area. The motorcycle was located in a driveway at a residence on Gentry, but law enforcement says the bike did not belong to anyone at the residence.

Officers involved in the pursuit identified the motorcycle and the bike was still “extremely hot.” A VIN check was performed through law-enforcement databases and identified the bike as being owned by Charlton, whose last-known address was also on Gentry Drive. The deputy who began the chase and attempted the stop at the business viewed photos of Charlton and identified him as the rider of the motorcycle.

Charlton is the subject of an ongoing court case after he was arrested in 2020 for felony breaking or entering and two misdemeanor counts of theft of property. The charges involved the theft of a 105-gallon fuel tank and a microwave from a local business.
