A single traffic stop July 13 led to the arrest of all three people in the vehicle on charges including felony possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
One of the three, 24-year-old Andrew Miller of Salesville, appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday and entered not guilty plea to the charges against him. According to the probable cause affidavit, Miller’s arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on Highway 177 near Koso Point made by a trooper with the Arkansas State Police.
The trooper reported smelling the “strong odor of intoxicants coming from inside the vehicle.”
According to the trooper’s report, Miller was the backseat passenger, 25-year-old Denise Roof of Mountain Home was driving and the front seat passenger was identified as 23-year-old Austin Nicholas Taylor of Flippin.
The trooper reported searching the van and finding a substance field-testing positive for methamphetamine, a small quantity of marijuana and a glass-smoking device,
No one would claim ownership of the materials and all were arrested.
According to court records, Roof filed a petition seeking an order of protection against Taylor in late November last year.
In the petition filed in the domestic relations division of Marion County Circuit Court, Roof indicates she and Taylor have children in common and formerly resided together.
Roof contends she sought the order because Taylor “has a lengthy history of using meth” and being violent to her and the children.
The request for the protective order was dismissed at Roof’s request May 3, just 72 days before she, Taylor and Miller were arrested together.
A hearing to revoke Miller’s probation in an earlier case will be held August 9.
Taylor also has an open felony drug case in Marion County. A jury trial on those charges is scheduled for Aug. 30.
