Arkansas State University-Mountain Home will require students, staff and visitors to use face masks while on campus to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.The ASU System Board of Trustees Thursday authorized ASU Chancellor Kelly Damphousse to establish an on-campus mask policy.
ASUMH chancellor Dr. Robin Myers says the mask mandate for his campus will most likely go into effect Monday once employees post the necessary signs around campus about masks being required.
ASUMH will continue registering students Monday and Tuesday for the fall semester, with most students returning to classroom instruction on Wednesday.
Myers explains what the policy means for his staff and students.
Listen:
ASU’s mandate requires masks be worn in classrooms, hallways, meeting spaces and confined spaces like elevators. Masks will be required regardless of vaccination status.
For outdoor events, masking is recommended but not required.
Instructors are not required to wear a face mask while lecturing if they maintain at least 12 feet of distance from students. Otherwise, instructors are asked to wear face shields when in close proximity to students. Employees are not required to wear masks in their individual offices.
Each ASU campus is allowed to review the mask policy on its own schedule. Myers says ASUMH will review the policy at least every 30 days.
Listen:
The ASU System joins the University of Arkansas and the University of Central Arkansas in requiring masks be worn when on campus.
