Izard County plane crash victim identified as doctor from Heber Springs

The victim of plane crash Monday in Izard County has been positively identified as a Cleburne County man. According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office identified the pilot as 56-year-old Dr. Rodger Langster of Heber Springs.

Preliminary information indicates the plane went down south of the Melbourne Airport shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, with the Spring River Chronicle reporting the crash near Melbourne High School. Authorities say deputies and Melbourne Fire Department personnel arrived to find a single-engine plane engulfed in flames, and Langster was the only occupant.

The crash remains under investigation.
