Fulton County Sheriff Al Roork has announced he will retire at the end of the year.

The sheriff, who has 42 years’ worth experience in law enforcement, told the Fulton County Quorum Court Aug. 16 about his retirement plans. Roork recommended the court appoint Chief Deputy Joe Boshears to complete his term, which expires Dec. 31, 2022.

Speaking to KTLO News last week, the 66-year-old Roork said it was time to consider retirement.
