A fatal crash Wednesday afternoon in Baxter County is being investigated as a homicide. A male driver is reported to be deceased, his female passenger was injured, and another male was taken into custody following the incident on County Road 54, also known as Old Arkana Road.
According to Sheriff John Montgomery, Baxter County 911 dispatch received a call from a female claiming she was being chased by a male in another vehicle in the area of Old Arkana Road and Old Military Road. She alleged the male had intentionally rammed the vehicle she was occupying. The caller also claimed to know the driver of the other vehicle and gave his name to the operator.
Deputies responded to the area, and one spotted a crash scene with the two vehicles matching the description of those provided by the female caller. The deputy found the male driver of the first vehicle to be deceased, and extrication equipment was used to get his injured female passenger out of the vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was also reportedly located at the scene, and he was transported to the sheriff’s office for further investigation. The names of those involved are currently being withheld as the investigation continues.
As the crash scene is processed as a crime scene, investigators will confer with the 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney’s Office during the investigation. The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the Arkansas State Police with the investigation. The Mountain Home Fire Department, Baxter Regional Medical Center ambulance personnel and the Baxter County Coroner’s Office also responded.
