A Baxter County woman, Emily Lancaster of Mountain Home and formerly of Yellville, had a successful run at the Arkansas State Fair earlier this month. Competing in the open bake competition, Lancaster submitted 10 entries and receive 10 ribbons, with two being for “Best of Show.”In the cookie division she received
• Sugar cookies, third place;
• Carmel bars, third place;
• Oatmeal raisin, first place and “Best of Show” and
• Chocolate chip, first place.
In the cakes division she received
• Carrot, first place;
• Devil’s food, second place;
• Pound, first place and
• Cheesecake, third place.
In the pie division, Lancaster received
• Granny Agnes’ cream, second place.
In the yeast bread division, Lancaster received
• Cinnamon rolls, first place and “Best of Show.”
Lancaster began competing in fairs as a way to honor her late grandmother, Willodean Brightwell. Lancaster says Brightwell was an amazing baker that taught her everything she knows.
Lancaster thanks her family, friends and co-workers for always being willing taste testers and says she looks forward to competing next year.
