In high school basketball Monday night, Cotter opened the season with a 45-41 victory over Lead Hill. Hayden Hutson paced the Warriors with 19 points.
Cotter also won the junior boys’ contest 47-15. Ryan Benedict led the Junior Warriors with 22 points.
The Viola junior girls advanced to the semifinals of the Jasper Junior High Invitational Tournament with a 48-36 decision over Kingston. Marissa Hutson had 21 points and 7 rebounds for the Junior Lady Longhorns, while Kenzie Hall added 13 points.
The Junior Lady Longhorns are 2-0 and will play at Jasper again Saturday at 1.
