Cotter School Board members will now be elected from the district’s five zones following action in a special meeting last week.

Superintendent Vanessa Thomas Jones presented an amended board zoning resolution. Under the resolution, the five zones shall have substantially equal populations, with boundaries based on the most recent available federal decennial census information.

The action is in keeping with the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 and must be approved by the Baxter County Board of Election commissioners.

A number of school districts in Arkansas are taking similar action following the results of the 2020 U.S. Census.
