JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — No one was injured in a Monday night fire that destroyed a Missouri state office building, Gov. Mike Parson’s office said Tuesday.
The Department of Social Services’ Jefferson City building was empty when firefighters arrived Monday, according to Parson’s office.
Roughly 100 staffers for the Social Services Department and the Office of Administration’s Information Technology Services Division had worked in the East Elm Street building. Parson’s administration is relocating the workers and replacing destroyed equipment.
Parson spokeswoman Kelli Jones said there’s not an estimated cost of the damage the fire caused yet. The State Fire Marshall and the Jefferson City Fire Department were set to inspect the damage Tuesday.
The building is considered a total loss because of the extent of the damage, the Jefferson City News Tribune reported.
“We are incredibly relieved that no one was injured during last night’s fire,” Acting Social Services Director Robert Knodell said in a Tuesday statement. “Material items and equipment can be replaced, but our team is invaluable.”
