Genealogist Rita Wallace will be the guest speaker at the November meeting of the Baxter County Historical Society Tuesday evening at 6 in the Knox Room of the Baxter County Library. Wallace will speak on the topic “Using FamilySearch to Track Your Family Cross-Country.”

Using the popular, free, online search software from familysearch.com, Wallace will explain and demonstrate in real time how, by using online resources at the FamilySearch website, those researching their own family’s tree can find and use online abstracts and compilations in printed books and records. These documents help a researcher trace his or her family westward in history.

Born and raised in Arkansas, Wallace graduated from public schools and earned a bachelors degree in history from the University of Arkansas, Little Rock; a masters degree in public history and a second masters in library and information systems from the University of South Carolina.

Wallace worked for 20 years as court historian and archivist for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She then retired in Springfield to be close to her children and their families.

Wallace has been a member of the Ozarks Genealogical Society (OGS) for over 40 years and serves as the corresponding secretary of OGS. Working from the OGS Library in Springfield, Wallace continues her own search and teaches others how to search for those elusive ancestors who immigrated to and settled the United States.

The meetings of the Baxter County Historical Society are free and open to the public.
