Officials received an update earlier this month on a $7.7 million fiber development project in Searcy County from Kinetic Windstream.
The Marshall Mountain Wave reports the project will make 1G internet service available to roughly 800 locations in Searcy County.
The target date for completion is March 31, 2022.
The project is funded through the American Rescue Plan.
In the spring, grants will become available again and a second application has been submitted to the state for phase two to make internet service available in about 1,600 additional locations. The project will bring fiberoptic internet directly to residents’ homes.
The Searcy County Arkansas Chamber of Commerce in a social media post says the additional request for funding will be in the amount of $17 million.
