MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — An Arkansas state trooper was shot and injured while assisting other police officers in the Memphis area, a State Police spokesman said Thursday.
State Police Spokesman Bill Sadler did not identify the trooper, but said he was not believed seriously injured by the gunfire.
Sadler said more details about the shooting and what led to it would be released later, and that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation would be the lead investigative agency on the case.
Memphis television stations reported a portion of Interstate 55 eastbound in Memphis was closed because of the shooting and showed a large police presence in the area.
