Most roads clear, snow remains on others

Thursday morning’s snowfall caused some hazardous travel conditions in the Twin Lakes Area. Most local roadways have cleared, but there may still be some with issues.A spokesperson with the Mountain Home Street Department says crews put sand on the city streets’ slick spots. She adds there may have been some wet areas Thursday afternoon, but the roads are mostly clear.A spokesperson with the Baxter County Road and Bridge Department says the roads are mostly clear, but there may still be some issues on the county roads.

Another spokesperson with the Marion County Road Department says the highways are mainly clear, but snow does remain on many of the county’s dirt roads.

Traveling on the highways in North Central Arkansas does not currently provide any weather-related safety concerns. IDriveArkansas.com shows the areas major highways are clear.

Gainesville Fire Chief Ed Doiron had spent much of the day answering calls for wrecks in the snow and later needed assistance of his own. According to the Ozark County Times, Doiron was traveling Thursday in a fire truck west of Gainesville on U.S. Highway 160. He was following a slow-moving vehicle past County Road 630 when he lost traction, and the truck went into the ditch.

While all roads in Ozark County are currently open, a county road maintenance spokesperson says some of the county roads may have snow on them. In addition, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s traveler information map shows Missouri Highway 5 is covered from the state line to Wasola and mostly clear from there traveling further north. Highway 160 is covered from Gainesville to just west of the Ozark/Howell county line and partly covered continuing east.

Elsewhere in Howell County, Missouri Highway 17 is partly covered from West Plains to the state line, Missouri Route K is partly covered from West Plains and continuing west to its junction with County Road 6470, and Missouri Route CC is partly covered from West Plains and continuing west to its junction with Missouri Route CC.
