
Eligible Arkansans spent $264.9 million on medical marijuana in 2021 among the state’s 37 dispensaries.The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration reports the state also recently surpassed $500 million spent on medical marijuana since the first dispensary opened in May 2019.The dispensaries sold a total of 40,347 pounds of medical marijuana in 2021.
A breakdown of those sales indicates Plant Family Therapeutics of Mountain Home was the fourth largest dispensary for the year, having sold 2,596 pounds. In an earlier report, it was noted the Mountain Home dispensary was also the fourth top seller for the month of November.
Outselling the local dispensary in total sales for 2021 were
* Relief Center of Bentonville with 4,012 pounds;
* Natural Relief Dispensary of Sherwood with 3,682 pounds; and
* Suite 443 in Hot Springs with 2,899 pounds.
State tax collection on medical marijuana was approximately $34.5 million in 2021. This includes collection from the regular state sales tax of 6.5%, along with the 4.0% privilege tax. Both taxes apply to every patient purchase, while only the 4.0% tax applies to sales from cultivators to dispensaries.
The Arkansas Department of Health reports 79,476 active patient cards.
