Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) has been approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing to offer a part-time LPN program.ASUMH officials say the program is geared for those unable to attend college full-time but want to pursue nursing.
The new part-time nursing program is 18 months long over five semesters. It will begin in June. Those successfully completing the program will graduate in December 2023.
Classes are currently scheduled to meet on Monday evenings from 5-9 and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for clinical.
To be successful, students should make sure they have a time commitment for the program of approximately 30 hours per week, which will include 13 hours in class and clinical and another 20 for online courses and homework.
Practical nursing program applications are available on the ASUMH website: asumh.edu/degrees-and-programs/health-sciences/degree/8/nursing-practical-nursing. Completed applications are due by noon on March 15.
The prerequisites that must be completed are either human anatomy and physiology for healthcare professions with lab or human anatomy and physiology I and II with labs. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a “C” or higher. Additionally, students must have a current CNA license.
*College preparatory courses must be completed prior to applying to the practical nursing program.
ASUMH will continue to offer the current full-time program with both fall and spring start dates.
Admission into the program is determined according to earned scores on the HESI A2 exam (reading comprehension, math and anatomy and physiology) and prerequisite GPA. Preregistration for the admission exam is mandatory. Instructions for the exam will be emailed to prospective students once they complete the online application. Limited seating in the testing center is available. Prospective students are encouraged to apply early.
