An area man serving prison time for striking a road construction worker with his vehicle is appealing his sentence. According to KAIT, the appeal for Kristopher Gould of Mammoth Spring was filed by his attorney.

It took a jury 15 minutes to find Gould guilty of negligent homicide last month. He was given a sentence of 15 years after driving into a construction zone near the Tyronza Bridge in Poinsett County and hitting and killing Preston Brayfield on May 30, 2020. Brayfield, from the Kansas City area, was in Arkansas for work. He was 22 years old when he was hit and killed.

The decision to appeal the sentence has upset Brayfield’s family. His mother, Stacie, says, “At some point in time, he has never shown any remorse for Preston every and now he doesn’t even want to take accountability for what he was sentenced to. When is he ever going to stop? When is he going to stop torturing our family? We have lived a nightmare since the day he took our son’s life.”

Gould initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but did apologize to the Brayfield family during sentencing.
