The Mountain Home School District is working on plans to renovate the high school campus built in 1966. In KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news’ first report about the project, Superintendent Dr. Jake Long explained the need for the renovation and with a estimated price tag of $40M, the district later this year will ask voters for a millage increase to pay for the project. Mountain Home has the lowest millage rate of any school its size in the state and is well below the state’s average rate.
Long says after looking into the best option for the district to fix the problems school officials are dealing with at the high school, it became obvious renovating the current campus is a much better choice than building a new one, especially with the prices other schools in the state have paid for similar construction.

Long says school officials hope to have more details on their plan worked out in the next 30-60 days. Schools can only have elections four times a year, in February, May, August and November. Long says there’s not enough time to have everything ready by May, so they will be looking at August or November for the special election for the millage.
