Arkansas consistently ranks as one of the most food insecure and one of the most obese states in the nation. Many of those struggling with obesity are also struggling with food insecurity. Eating healthy on a budget is possible if families have the confidence and skills they need to shop for and prepare affordable, delicious, and healthy meals at home.
Feeding America estimates that 22.2% of the population of Sharp County is considered food insecure, while 20.1% of Fulton County and 20% of Izard County residents are food insecure. Food Bank of North Central Arkansas CEO, Jeff Quick stated “With the increased cost of food, gas, housing and the overall cost of living increases, it’s more important than ever to learn how to shop nutritiously on a budget. We’ll be sharing simple tips and tricks to help you make the best of your food budget and reduce food waste on a daily basis. Cooking Matters at the Store is, by far, an incredible benefit for people who participate.”
