The Arkansas Activities Association has released its new basketball conference alignments for the new cycle beginning this fall, and Mountain Home will be among the schools seeing changes. The rivalry for the Bombers and Lady Bombers against Harrison is one of the state’s oldest, but it will mean more as they become conference foes for at least the next two years.

Harrison is moving up to Class 5A from Class 4A. The Goblins and Lady Goblins will join Mountain Home in the 5A-West. Other schools in the league include Greenbrier, Russellville, Siloam Springs, Alma, Van Buren and Greenwood. Harrison is replacing Vilonia, who is moving to the 5A-Central.

In addition, three area schools will move up from Class 2A to Class 3A. Flippin will join the 3A-1 along with Bergman, Valley Springs, Elkins, Greenland, West Fork and Lincoln.

Salem and Melbourne will be moving into the 3A-2. The Greyhounds and Bearkatz will join up with Mountain View, Cave City, Walnut Ridge, Hoxie, Tuckerman and Newport.

Ozark Mountain is one of two area schools moving up from Class 1A to Class 2A, and they’ll be one of three schools in the 2A-1. In addition to Cotter and Yellville-Summit, other members of the league listed by the AAA include Eureka Springs, Haas Hall-Springdale, Haas Hall-Rogers, Haas Hall-Bentonville, Greenland and Life Way Christian. It’s unclear how many of the Hall Hall schools will field a basketball program next year.

Izard County is the other area school moving up to Class 2A. The Cougars and Lady Cougars will be in the 2A-2 with Marshall, Cedar Ridge, South Side-Bee Branch, Quitman, Mount Vernon-Enola, White County Central and Sloan-Hendrix.

Other than the departure of Izard County, the 1A-2 will remain the same. Norfork will keep Viola, Calico Rock, Timbo, Rural Special, Shirley, Greers Ferry West Side and Concord as its conference foes.

No changes will be made to the 1A-3. Mammoth Spring will remain in the conference with Hillcrest, Ridgefield Christian, Crowley’s Ridge Academy, Maynard, Marked Tree, KIPP Blytheville and Armorel.

Lead Hill, Omaha and Jasper will remain in the 1A-1 East. They’ll be joined by Alpena, Mount Judea, Deer, Kingston and Oark.

The new cycle will begin in the fall of 2022 and continue through the winter of 2024.
