A team from Drury University is at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the Strike King Bassmaster College Series presented by Bass Pros Shops at Lake Norfork Marina in Henderson. Beau Browning and Jake Peck were able to overcome a slow start and catch five fish weighing 19 pounds, 1 ounce. Browning and Peck have a lead of 2 pounds, 13 ounces, over Kopeland Rosser and Ryan Branch of the University of Montevallo in Alabama.
Hunter Palmer and Eli Stevenson of Bryan College in Tennessee are currently in third place with five fish weighing 16 pounds. They also caught the big bass of the day at 7 1/2 pounds.
Among schools in Arkansas, Cole Lamb of Arkansas Tech is tied for 33rd at 11 1/4; Jon Gekiere and Carter Welch of Arkansas are 104th with 7 3/4 pounds; Masen Wade and Davis Coleman of Arkansas are 122nd at 6 pounds, 3 ounces; Jacob Swerdloff and Carson Hyles of Arkansas are part of a three-way tie for 152nd at 4 pounds, 6 ounces; Doug Wintle of Arkansas State is tied for 162nd at 3 pounds, 15 ounces; Remington Lawrence and Jade Craft of Arkansas Tech are tied for 193rd at 1 pound, 2 ounces; and Terry Moore and Travis Clingensmith of ASU-Mountain Home were unable to come back with a catch.
The college anglers will wrap up action in the tournament Saturday. The boats launch out of Lake Norfork Marina at 6:10.
