A Yellville man is accused of stealing a car belonging to a woman who had recently died and then selling it.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case from the Gassville Police Department, Richard Daniel Lackie asked to borrow the car from the deceased women’s daughter and agreed to return it within one hour. When he didn’t, she tried to get him to bring the car back, but he wouldn’t.
Law enforcement found the vehicle in Izard County. The woman driving it had a bill of sale showing she had paid $150 for the vehicle 11 days after Lackie took it.
The incident happened March 25 and Lackie was arrested July 3. He is facing a felony count of theft of property in connection with the theft of the car. He has other charges after being stopped by the Arkansas State Police including driving on a suspended license and having expired tags. His bond is set at just over $4,900.
