LEBANON, Mo. – More than a dozen crews spent Saturday fighting a wildfires in Lebanon, defending buildings and homes from multiple fires.
Fire crews from several southwest Missouri areas fought to limit the damage from several grass fires in Lebanon Saturday afternoon.
It just rapidly grew from there. And as it as it was growing, we started calling more and more mutual aid in to help with the fire. We did have several fires working in the county today. said Lebanon Rural Fire Chief Phillip Pitts.
One of the fires was near Pelican Drive, which Pitts estimates nearly damaged 140 acres of land, but wont have an exact amount until hes able to map out the damage Sunday.
The fire near Pelican Drive has been fully contained but took several hours to do so.
Pitts says drought conditions in the area created challenges getting the fire put out quickly.
Another fire in the area damaged over six acres of land and burned down an abandoned mobile home according to Pitts.
The fire chief says hes appreciative of the help his team received from the area.
We had the regional strike team come in, which brought several counties as far away as GREENE County in. We had Logan Rogers Field there. We would just like to extend the thanks to all the Pulaski and the surrounding counties that came in to help us with the fire. Pitts said.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
