Starting this fall, two youth soccer leagues will be offered in Mountain Home. In addition to the Twin Lakes Soccer Association, there will now be a youth league courtesy of Mountain Home Parks and Recreation.

L.C. Sammons Youth Center Program Coordinator Enoch Pepin says he first learned about Parks and Rec offering soccer when he arrived to work and talked to then-Director Billy D. Austin, who has since retired.

Mountain Home Parks and Rec’s soccer games and practices will be held at the Dr. Ray D. Stahl Complex. The age groups begin at Under-4 and continue through Under-15. The registration costs vary depending on the age group with the youngest at $45.

Registration is currently underway for the program, and a few tentative dates are scheduled, even though nothing has been finalized. The deadline to register is currently on Aug. 24, a coach’s clinic will be offered Aug. 30 and 31, the player’s assessment is on Sept. 6 and 8, and the season may begin Sept. 24.

Pepin says the focal point for the city’s league is that it’s purely recreational.

The city is in need of volunteers for coaching, player assessments, etc. For more information, contact the L.C. Sammons Youth Center at 870-424-7275.

While the Mountain Home Parks and Recreation Youth Soccer League will begin its inaugural season, the Twin Lakes Soccer Association has been in operation for over a quarter of a century. Vice President Christy Jones says the organization is looking to continue its tradition as they prepare for more seasons this fall and in the spring.

In the past, the TLSA has held its games at the Stahl Soccer Complex, but it will no longer be permitted to with the city’s new league. Jones says TLSA has found an alternate venue in Mountain Home, but the organization is currently not disclosing its location.

Registration is underway for the Twin Lakes Soccer Association. Age groups begin at Under-4 and continue through Under-16. The registration costs range from $40 to $60 depending on the age group.

Jones says while TLSA does not focus on travel teams, recreational coaches are allowed to have their teams compete in tournaments sanctioned by the Arkansas State Soccer Association.
