The 2022 edition of the Natural State’s most comprehensive football publication is on newsstands. Hooten’s Arkansas Football Magazine previews the upcoming season for high school teams (all 11-man and a few eight-man) and the college teams in the state. The biggest section of the magazine breaks down every 11-man high school football team and conference in Arkansas.
Mountain Home’s recent run of two straight posteason appearances is expected to be snapped after this year. The coaches predicted the Bombers to finish ninth in the 6A-West, despite the fact that Hooten’s has them 10th in the Class 6A rankings. In addition, Elijah Lagg is a member of the Hootens.com Super Team in Class 6A as an offensive lineman. Conference newcomer Pulaski Academy is predicted to win the league title after winning last year’s championship in Class 5A.
Three area schools are competing in the 3A-2.
Yellville-Summit is not expected to go back to the postseason as they return to Class 3A this season. The Panthers were selected by the coaches to finish seventh in the conference.
Salem is once again expected to represent the league in the playoffs. The coaches picked the Greyhounds to finish fourth in the 3A-2.
Melbourne is expected to join Salem in the postseason with a second place finish in the 3A-2. In addition, the Hootens.com rankings have the Bearkatz at No. 9 in Class 3A.
Newport was selected to win the 3A-2.
Harrison is predicted by the coaches to get back in the postseason by finishing third in the 5A-West. The Goblins are also sixth in the Hootens.com Class 5A rankings. Beck Jones is representing Harrison on the Class 5A Super Team as a defensive back. Shiloh Christian is picked to win the 5A-West.
This year’s issue also has a new section in which it ranks the top 12 eight-man teams in the state. Izard County, nearly one month away from playing its first ever down of high school football, is fifth in the rankings.
