While a portion of Twin Lakes Area schools returned to classes for the 2022-2023 school year last week, Mountain Home will be among those starting sessions this week. In addition to Mountain Home, Monday is the first day for the Norfork, Flippin, Gainesville, Lutie and Dora school districts. Bakersfield begins its classes on Tuesday. All other area schools, including Mountain Home Christian Academy and the Cotter and Yellville-Summit school districts, are already underway with their classes.

With the start of the school year, student safety in and around school buses becomes a priority for schools, parents and motorists. To promote school bus safety, the Arkansas Department of Education has posted on Twitter #FlashingRedKidsAhead. The campaign is a reminder to Arkansas drivers it’s illegal to pass a school bus loading or unloading students with its red lights flashing. Drivers in all lanes, even on multi-lane highways, regardless of direction of travel, must stop at least 30 feet before reaching the bus.

For the fourth year in a row, the Mountain Home School District is providing school supplies for all district students. Parents will still need to purchase backpacks and lunchboxes for students.

At Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, classes for the fall semester are set to get underway on Wednesday.
