Mountain Home High School tennis teams fare well at first day of conference tournament

The Mountain Home High School tennis teams opened play in the 5A West Conference Tournament in Russellville Monday. The Lady Bombers had both singles players and both doubles teams advance to the second day while the Bombers had one of their doubles teams move on to the semifinals.

In singles play for Mountain Home, top seeded Maci Heide and third seeded Cambelle Lance each won their first two matches and will square off Tuesday in the semifinals. Heide defeated her opponent from Alma 6-0, 6-0 and then downed her opponent from Russellville 6-1, 6-0. Lance defeated her first opponent from Harrison 6-1, 6-1 and then downed a player from Russellville 6-4, 6-1.

The doubles team of Hannah Becker and Bianca Talbot won their match against a team from Alma 6-0, 6-1 and then defeated a team from Greenwood 6-5, 6-1. The team of Kelsey Blackwell and Bella Dotson won their first match and then had the upset of the day with a win over the #2 seeded team from Greenwood 7-6, 6-4.

On the boys’ side, Mountain Home’s doubles team of Zane Darracq and Pierce Blackmon advanced to the semifinals Tuesday. They defeated a team from Russellville 6-1, 6-3 and then downed a team from Alma 6-4, 6-3.

The other doubles team of Jordan Corbett and Will Bevel lost to a team from Russellville in the first round 3-6, 5-7.

In singles action, Stratton Smith won his first round match against a player from Greenbrier 6-0, 6-1 but lost in the second round to a player from Alma 3-6, 4-6. Finley Chafin lost in the first round to a player from Van Buren 6-7, 4-6.
