
The Mountain Home High School football team’s homecoming game was successful as it turned into their first win of the season. The Bombers defeated Siloam Springs 44-17 on Friday to keep their postseason hopes alive.
It didn’t take long for the Panthers to strike first as they went 71 yards in four plays for the score. Mountain Home would later cut the margin to one with a touchdown of their own. The Bombers gave up another big play in the second quarter on a long run by Jed Derwin that set up another touchdown for Siloam Springs. Mountain Home later cut the margin to five on a field goal by Jack Sheaner. With a little over two minutes left in the half, Tony Fox came up with an interception for the Bombers and returned it to the Panthers’ 23 yard line. Mountain Home would later take their first lead with three seconds left on the clock on a two-yard touchdown run. The Bombers started the scoring in the second half on a 46-yard touchdown run by Brady Barnett. He ended up with five total touchdowns on the night and led Mountain Home in outscoring Siloam Springs 28-3 in the second half on the way to victory.
Barnett had 12 carries for 141 yards and three catches for 40 yards. Jacob Chenowith ran the ball 24 times for 67 yards and had four receptions for 83 yards, and Cade Yates was 12-of-21 passing for 195 yards. For the Panthers, Jackson Still completed 13 passes out of 23 attempts for 149 yards and two interceptions, and Jed Derwin had 12 carries for 81 yards. The Bombers outgained Siloam Springs 435-261.
Mountain Home improves to 1-7 on the season and 1-5 in the 6A-West. The Panthers fall to 0-9 and 0-7.
The Bombers will have their final road test of the regular season next week at Van Buren.
