The rain that fell Monday night and Tuesday has helped ease the wildfire danger in the area. A total of 3.77 inches of rain was recorded at the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot studios, the official reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service.
The entire state of Arkansas had been listed as being in the extreme danger category for wildfires by the Arkansas Forestry Commission prior to the rainfall. The commission updated their map Tuesday afternoon to show most of the area is now in the moderate category. Baxter, Marion, Searcy, Stone, Boone and Newton counties are all listed in the moderate danger category. Fulton and Izard counties are now in the high danger category.
The rain also allowed many burn bans to be lifted. Area counties who have now lifted their burn bans include Marion, Fulton, Izard and Stone. Several cities, including Mountain Home, Gassville and Salesville have also lifted their burn bans.
