(Rebecca Darleen Ramey)
A second person has been arrested for allegedly stealing electricity for over two years. Thirty-six-year-old Rebecca Darleen Ramey of Mountain Home was arrested Tuesday in connection with the theft and is facing two felony charges.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a serviceman for North Arkansas Electric Cooperative was doing routine meter checks and discovered the electric meter at the residence shared by Ramey and 39-year-old Alicia Lewis had been “jumpered” allowing electricity to flow through the line without being monitored.
NAEC records indicate there was power at the residence through Jan. 2014 and in Jan. 2020. After service was stopped, a serviceman was sent to the location to pull the meter and seal the meter base.
The Co-Op has calculated power usage from Jan. 2020 to June 2022 was estimated at a cost of just over $4,000. NAEC has also requested compensation for the damaged meter ring and a tampering charge.
Ramey has been charged with two felonies which include theft of property and damaging wires and other fixtures of telephone, cable and electric.
Ramey was also arrested in July of last year after she broke into two homes in Midway.
(Alicia Janine Lewis)
Lewis was previously arrested on the same charges. She appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Oct. 17 where she admitted she had violated the terms and conditions of her probation in a 2019 case and was sentenced to five years in prison.
