On November 5th, the Mountain Home NJROTC competed in the Drill season opener in Willard, Missouri, where they competed against six other JROTC units in 10 events with the top three teams advancing. Eight of the 11 teams from the NJROTC Unit competed in the Drill and Drone Meet ultimately taking home eight trophies, three personal awards, 2nd place over all, and an invitation to the Area 9 Championships held in Oklahoma City, OK in late January.

Among the awards, Mountain Home NJROTC took home the trophy for 2nd place over all, 1st place in academics, 2nd place in Armed Regulation Drill, 2nd place in Armed Exhibition Drill, 2nd place in Athletics, 2nd place in the 16×100 relay, 3rd place in New Cadet Squad, and 3rd place in Unarmed Exhibition Drill.

Taking home personal medals were cadet Lieutenant Ryan Amick for 2nd highest Academic score, cadet Senior Chief Petty Officer Ethan Darracq for Fastest Drone time in the Drone Relay event, and Cadet Seaman Apprentice Makynley Smith for 3rd highest Push-ups.

The NJROTC Unit narrowly defeated two other NJROTC units who were tied for second until the last event, resulting in Mountain Home claiming 2nd place, finishing behind last year’s Area 9 Champions Shawnee Mission North of Overland Park, KS.

If Mountain Home NJROTC can place on the top two at Championships, the unit will receive a chance to compete at the Navy National JROTC Championships held in Pensacola, FL in April.

Mountain Home NJROTC’s next Drill and Drone Competition will be held in Alma in early December.
