A Stone County man has been arrested for attempting to fire an unloaded gun at his ex-wife.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Stone County officers dispatched to a residence on Nov. 26 in Mountain View for a possible domestic in progress with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim who stated her ex-husband, 33-year-old Corey A. Owen, had left the residence on foot and was possible armed with a knife. The weapon in question was left in the residence before Owen left.

Officers searched the immediate area around the residence and upon entry found an unloaded Smith and Wesson revolver. Dispatch then informed officers Owen called to surrender and stated he was located along Warren Street with his hands raised. Once officers made contact with Owen, he stated he left some clothes and his knife in a field by a fence.

Once Owen was in custody, officers transported the victim to the Stone County Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The victim stated she arrived at her residence when Owen came out of a bedroom with a gun in hand. Owen then allegedly picked the victim up by her face and then sat her down, pointed the gun at her head and pulled the trigger, but the gun did not fire.

The victim stated she was screaming and trying to get her phone to dial 911 when Owen then grabbed her again and carried her to a bedroom. Owen allegedly then blocked entry to the bedroom so the victim could not leave and stated if she called the cops, Owen would be killed because he would “go out shooting.” The victim was then able to text a neighbor to dial 911.

According to the affidavit, the victim filed a report at the Mountain View Police Department on Oct. 17 after receiving 24 phone calls from a private number as well as numerous messages from Owen on Facebook. The victim provided approximately 70 pages worth of messages she received from Owen.

Owen has been charged with felony counts of residential burglary, false imprisonment, breaking or entering, terroristic threatening and aggravated assault.

Bond is set at 500,000.
