The Malvern High School football team was able to take home a state championship following a long weather delay Saturday in Little Rock. The Leopards won the Class 4A title game over Harding Academy by a final of 64-39 at War Memorial Stadium.
Jalen Dupree led Malvern’s rushing attack with 35 carries for 287 yards and four touchdowns, and he also had a 19-yard reception for a score. Cedric Simmons was eight-of-13 through the air for 224 yards and three touchdowns, and he ran the ball 10 times for 158 yards and two scores. Donta Cagle had four catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, Dyelon Caradine caught three passes for 80 yards and a score.
For Harding Academy, Owen Miller completed 24 passes out of 30 attempts for 393 yards and three touchdowns, but he was also sacked seven times. Kyler Hoover had eight receptions for 202 yards and three touchdowns, and Landon Koch added 11 catches for 131 yards.
The Leopards finish the season and 12-2. The Wildcats end up 12-1.
