MHHS splits 1st conference home outing with Van Buren

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams ended up splitting with Van Buren in their first home outing of the conference slate.

The Lady Bombers began the night with a 47-26 victory over the Lady Pointers. Other than one tie at 7-7, Mountain Home led the entire game. The Lady Bombers came out with a lot of offense as they scored 31 points in the first half and went into the locker room up by a dozen. Mountain Home’s offense sputtered a little more in the third quarter, but their defense held Van Buren to seven points in the entire second half as they went on to win by 21.

Amelia Rucker led the Lady Bombers with 21 points, all from behind the arc, and Laykin Moore added 12. Jaci Odom scored 11 points for the Lady Pointers.

Mountain Home improves to 11-8 on the season and 2-1 in the 5A-West. Van Buren falls to 9-9 and 1-2.

The boys’ game had a different result with the Bombers falling to the Pointers 74-49. Van Buren got on the board first and led for the entire game. The game was manageable for Mountain Home as they were down seven at the break, but the Pointers outscored the Bombers 24-8 in the third quarter. Van Buren went on to post the 25-point victory.

Mountain Home was led by Braiden Dewey with 23 points, and Ky Bickford chipped in 10. For the Pointers, Glavine McDonald had 29 points, Jaxon Cazzell provided 15, and Drew Brasuell ended up with 12.

The Bombers drop to 10-9 overall and 1-2 in the league. Van Buren is now 11-8 and 2-1.

Both Mountain Home teams will wrap up their current home stand Tuesday against Russellville.

In other 5A-West boys’ action, Harrison beat Greenwood 61-54, Greenbrier topped Siloam Springs 51-41, and Alma defeated Russellville 54-46. On the girls’ side, Harrison was destroyed by Greenwood 89-32, Siloam Springs pounded Greenbrier 52-21, and Russellville got past Alma 54-47.
