The Bomber boys let an early 21-2 lead get away as they fell to the Cyclones 49-44. Mountain Home jumped out by scoring the first 14 points of the game and later went up by 19. That’s when Russellville started their comeback. It wasn’t fast, but it was methodical. By halftime, the margin had been cut back to single digits. The Cyclones gave themselves the momentum they needed at the end of the third quarter when Caleb Carter picked Braiden Dewey’s pocket and hit a buzzer beater from half court to cut the Bombers’ lead to four. Russellville scored the first five points of the final period to get their first lead. Mountain Home went right back on top, but Russellville got the next basket and kept the lead for good as they outscored the Bombers 13-4 in the quarter.

Dewey led Mountain Home with 20 points. Carter scored 16 for the Cyclones, and Dawson Shafer added 12.

The Bombers fall to 10-10 on the season and 1-3 in the 5A-West. Russellville improves to 14-5 and 2-2.

The night wasn’t any better for Mountain Home’s girls as they lost to the Lady Cyclones 51-24. The game was kept close in the first quarter with five lead changes and two ties. Mountain Home scored 12 points in the period, but unfortunately, that’s also how many points they scored for the remainder of the game. Russellville was able to use its inside game to its advantage on the way to a 27-point victory.

No one was in double figures for the Lady Bombers. The Lady Cyclones were led by Taleigha Ealy with 18 points, Dru Robinson finished with 12, and Shyisha Willis chipped in 10.

Mountain Home drops to 11-9 overall and 2-2 in the league. Russellville is now 16-4 and 3-1.

Both Mountain Home teams will make their longest trip of the conference slate on Friday as they go to Greenwood.

In other 5A-West girls’ action, Harrison beat Greenbrier 57-39, Greenwood came back from being down nine and hit a putback at the buzzer to get past Siloam Springs 60-58, and Van Buren defeated Alma 43-38. On the boys’ side, Harrison got past Greenbrier 52-46, Siloam Springs edged out Greenwood 63-60, and Van Buren beat up on Alma 61-36.
