A Mountain Home man charged with a number of crimes related to a violent domestic situation earlier this month was in Baxter County Circuit Court January 23.

Thirty-two-year-old Chase Nathaniel Pollard is charged with aggravated assault on a family or household member, first-degree terroristic threatening, refusal to submit to arrest and obstructing governmental operations.

Pollard was arrested after Baxter County sheriff’s deputies went to a residence along Maple Leaf Trail to carry out a welfare check on a female at the address.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a request for the welfare check had come in from a man who said that his 70-year-old wife lived at the residence.

He reported she had recently had knee surgery and that he had not heard from her all day and was concerned.

The man said one of “their sons” was there and that he had “mental issues.”

When the first deputy arrived, he reported that Pollard was talking to him through the door, but would not allow him to gain entry to the residence.

The deputies did make contact with the victim through a bedroom window at the rear of the house. She was asked to come to the front door so that the deputies could confirm that she was not in distress.

When the female victim was asked if Pollard was in the house, she is reported to have said he was in Texas.

One of the deputies said he felt that the woman was frightened and not telling the full truth of what was going on.

When one of the deputies walked up to the victim and asked her if everything was all right, he said she began crying, said Pollard was in the back bedroom with a knife.

The victim said he had made threats to kill her and the responding lawmen as well. Pollard is alleged to have told the woman to lie and tell the deputies he was in Texas.

When the victim showed the deputies the room in which Pollard was hiding, they went in and found that he had concealed himself under a large pile of clothes.

Pollard would not exit the closet completely and told the deputies if they tried to arrest him, he was going to injure them.

The deputies subdued him and took him to the Baxter County jail.

Court records do not indicate if the knife was ever found.

In a follow-up interview, the victim said Pollard had left the residence at one point during the day of the incident and had come back intoxicated.

She said he grew increasingly argumentative and began damaging the house, including knocking holes in the wall.

In court on Monday, Pollard requested that he be released on his own recognizance, but Circuit Judge John Putman refused.

The judge did lower the bond to $3,500 after Pollard told him he would be living in Flippin.

One of the conditions of the bond was that Pollard “have absolutely no contact with the victim – none whatsoever.”

He is set to reappear in court Feb. 6.

At one point during his appearance, Pollard identified the victim as his stepmother.
