Cotter girls fall, Norfork girls win in district semifinals

Four area high school basketball teams took part in the semifinals of the 2A-1 District Tournament Thursday at Eureka Springs.
Cotter’s girls came up just short against another group of Lady Warriors. Cotter was edged out by Life Way Christian 47-44.
Yellville-Summit will be Life Way Christian’s opponent in Friday’s title game. The top-seeded Lady Panthers defeated Ozark Mountain 78-46.
Ozark Mountain fared better on the boys’ side. The Bears advanced to the championship contest after topping Eureka Springs 54-45.

Viola was the site for the semifinals of the 1A-2 District Tournament.
Norfork’s girls were able to invoke the mercy rule as they routed Concord 58-28. Jordan Rasmussen led the top-seeded Lady Panthers with 17 points, Keely Blanchard scored 16, and Kiley Alman added 10. Norfork improves to 26-6 on the season.
The Lady Panthers’ opponent in Saturday’s championship game will be Rural Special. Viola was upset by the Lady Rebels 55-45. The host Lady Longhorns were led by A.J. McCandlis with 20 points. Rayleigh Turner had 18 points for Rural Special, and Kylan Stevens chipped in 16. Viola falls to 21-8 on the year. The Lady Rebels are now 16-15.
On the boys’ bracket, Calico Rock was defeated by Shirley 66-32. Riley Whiteaker was the Pirates’ top scorer with 12 points. Calico Rock drops to 19-14 on the season.

Both Mammoth Spring teams won their semifinal games in the 1A-3 District Tournament on their home floor.
The top-seeded Lady Bears put the mercy rule in effect as they dominated Armorel 75-27. Brynn Washam and Tay Davis paced Mammoth Spring with 20 points each.
Mammoth Spring’s boys picked up a 74-58 victory over Crowley’s Ridge Academy. The Bears were led by Gavin Boddie with 23 points, Nathaneal Rogers provided 13, Blake Rogers finished with 11, and Caleb Michaels ended up with 10 points.

Both of Marshall’s teams were able to advance to the title games of the 2A-2 District Tournament at White County Central High School in Providence.
The Lady Bobcats were able to pull off the 62-60 upset over Quitman. Sarah Baysinger was Marshall’s leading scorer with 27 points, and Audrey Blair added 13. The Lady Bobcats’ record is now 15-10, and they’ll face Mount Vernon-Enola on Saturday.
The Marshall boys later squeaked by Cedar Ridge 59-58. Payton DePriest and Jesse Ragland led the Bobcats with 17 points each. Marshall improves to 22-6, and their last opponent in the tournament will be Sloan-Hendrix.

Elsewhere, Gainesville’s girls had a rough night in front of the home crowd. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Conway 49-43.
