Monday afternoon Arkansas lawmakers unveiled Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ education overhaul bill, the LEARNS Act, which includes a $14,000 increase in the starting salary for teachers and vouchers for every student eligible to enroll in a public school.
District 3 Arkansas State Representative Stetson Painter joined KTLO’s Heather Loftis to discuss the bill and how it could affect schools in our area.

Painter states the Senate Education Committee is expected to hear the bill Wednesday with it going to vote on the Senate floor as early as Thursday. From there it will go to the House Education Committee on Tuesday with a House vote next Wednesday or Thursday.
In addition, Painter clarified with KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News the state would be giving all schools money to raise salaries up to $50,000 not just those who were financially distressed.
